Sulfur Powder
Sulfur Powder
Sulfur is a common non-metallic element that appears as a yellow solid and is known for its flammability and chemical reactivity.
In the rubber industry, sulfur is the most important crosslinking agent, used in the vulcanization process to give rubber its elasticity.
After vulcanization, rubber compounds that were originally soft and easily deformed are transformed into tough, heat-resistant, and highly elastic materials with excellent abrasion resistance and aging stability.
Therefore, sulfur is widely used in the production of tires, shoe soles, seals, hoses, and various rubber products, making it an indispensable raw material in the rubber industry.
| Product Code | Composition | Key Features |
|---|---|---|
| S-95N | 95% sulfur + 5% heavy paraffinic oil (Paraffinic Distillate) | Oiled sulfur with excellent stability and low dust generation. |
| S-95P | 95% sulfur + 5% petroleum-based dispersing agent | Formulation with added dispersant, improving dispersion and reducing dust-related issues. |
| S-325 | 100% sulfur (pure grade) | Traditional vulcanizing agent with high purity; however, it generates significant dust and is classified as a hazardous material for transportation. |
Three Key Advantages of Oiled Sulfur
Oiled Sulfur is produced by adding an appropriate amount of heavy paraffinic oil (approximately 5%) to high-purity sulfur, forming a stable mixture coated with an oil film. This enhanced design offers multiple benefits during handling and processing, making it well-suited for modern rubber manufacturing that prioritizes safety, stability, and clean production.
1. Reduced Dust and Improved Operating Safety
Traditional powdered sulfur generates dust easily during handling and feeding, causing workplace contamination and increasing the risks of inhalation and dust explosion.
S-95N adopts an oiled formulation that effectively suppresses dust dispersion and reduces static buildup, resulting in safer handling and a cleaner working environment.
According to SDS data, S-95N is classified as a “Non-hazardous mixture,” whereas pure sulfur S-325 is categorized as “Hazardous by OSHA.”
2. Enhanced Dispersion and Mixing Stability
The oil film promotes uniform dispersion of sulfur particles during mixing, reducing the formation of sulfur spots and crystallization. This leads to more stable formulations and improved consistency in physical properties.
For high-viscosity compounds such as NR, SBR, and EPDM, oiled sulfur helps stabilize the vulcanization process, ensuring optimal elasticity and strength in the final rubber products.
3. Safer Packaging, Storage, and Transportation
Both S-95N and S-95P are not classified as dangerous goods (Non-Dangerous Goods, Non-DG).
This characteristic offers significant advantages in international logistics, storage, and customs procedures, while also reducing insurance and transportation risk costs.
